It's the taleas Courage Demotivational Poster print, woo!
I print all taleas posters in-house (very literally) on high quality, matte photo paper. This paper is much thicker than regular, and takes color much better than regular poster paper.
What is courage? Some say it is achieving something and that involves risk and challenge and vulnerability. Some say it is being a leader. Some say courage is being outspoken. I think courage is a lot of things incorporating all of those attributes. But courage is almost being smart.
Intelligence and forethought are an essential part of being courageous. Without those, you can’t overcome anything or lead anyone or speak out in any way. A courageous person is a leader in many ways and who can lead without smarts? There are far too many people who think being the loudest or most confident person makes you courageous and strong but it doesn’t. The truly courageous person is the one who plots a path and overcomes fear and pushes themselves to achieve. It’s not the person who leaps before the rest of the pack so they can look like a hero. Don’t ever fall in line behind someone who swears up and down that they are courageous, they will lead you straight off a cliff.
Early in my career, when I was employed by a very large telecom company, I worked in a cavernous 80,000 square foot office with purple cubicle walls, purple pillars and rows and rows of fluorescent lights. Dozens of stereotypical office motivational posters were tacked to the office walls encouraging us to "achieve our goals", "strive for success" and "persevere at all costs". These inspired me to write a few demotivational posters of my own and add them to the taleas comic collection. Several of these posters can even be found decorating the office walls in a few startups around the Austin area.
Traditional motivational posters use a white frames, black background with a centered inspirational image and, mockingly, demotivational posters use the same light on black format with either an ironic image and sarcastic caption or an inspirational image with a sarcastic caption. In keeping with my whimsical and cartoony style I have decided to draw my demotivational posters in my own style. While it's a very stark departure from the expected format I feel like it presents the dark and sarcastic tones in a more lighthearted manner.
