Modern industry requires modern ability. There was a time when people would get hired for one job with one task. Your workload was constant, sure, but it was also reliable. But times have changed and, as they have, companies have been asking a lot more of their employees. Job interviews almost always include the question “How good are you at multi-tasking?” It’s a valid question and, honestly, an important talent to have. If my days in the tech industry have taught me anything it’s that you have to juggle multiple things at once. But corporations should realize that people have limitations and there is a difference between expanding and diversifying an employee’s skill set and overloading them. You know why a straw broke the camel’s back? Because there were a million other ones underneath it.
