The Story Behind Got Whacked

Back in 1997, a young environmentalist named Julia “Butterfly” Hill climbed a 180-foot redwood tree in Humboldt County, California. Hill sat in that tree for a staggering 738 days to prevent it from being cut down by a labor company. She stayed put through tortuous weather, constant harassment and a sort of loneliness that only an astronaut would know.

But her protest worked and the tree - and others nearby it - were saved from destruction. No matter your political beliefs, you have to admit that Hill’s journey into that redwood is an amazing feat of protest, dedication and strength. She stood up for what she believed in and put her money where her mouth is. You have to respect that. I am sure the trees do.
