Snowball fights are a lot of fun, right? Well, yes and no. Yes, they are fun. Yes, they are a great part of growing up. Yes, they can lead to some wonderful memories and can become the highlight of your childhood. But you and I both know that snowball fights can become downright traumatic too. Let's think about in a larger context: snowball fights are essentially pitting children against each other in some sort of icy, non-lethal version of the Lord of the Flies. Here's how a typical snowball fight works: a wintry storm comes to town and leave the entire city covered in a thick layer of thick, fluffy snow. It's a wonderful feeling when you wake up and you see that school has been cancelled due to snow. What a joy! Children bundle up in their best coats, throw on their globes and boots, and head out into a winter wonderland. Then, shortly thereafter, they are attacked like something out of a horror movie. Children can be SO intense when they are in a snowball fight. They don't hold back! The snowballs are thrown like bullets and kids will aim for any of the most valuable and vulnerable parts of the body. And, much like a dodge ball game, they don't stop when someone gets knocked down. They don't hold back because you throw in the towel and cry out for mercy. No, that only makes them pile on even more! Snowball fights show you the true nature of children and, I'm sorry to say, some of them can be quite crazed in this sort of situation. But the good news is that our Taleas snowman throwing a snowball is just trying to have some good, light-hearted, painless fun. Thank goodness.
