The Story Behind #2: Paper Airplane is it Safe to Fly

The airplane that I flew when I was getting my pilot’s license was an aluminum frame, fabric-covered beauty called the Piper Tri-Pacer. Dubbed a “flying diaper” by my dad, this little guy has a lot of spirit and energy even though it may lack something in the looks department. Considered “stubby” by many pilots, the Piper Tri-Pacer is a perky plane, full of personality and quirk and revered by many. It has a lot of die-hard fans even though, based on its appearance and size, outsiders might wonder about its safety. It was definitely safe for me and I logged a few hundred hours time in the Piper, cruising at 140 mph and learning the ins and outs of piloting.

Some might be frightened by the Piper’s tiny interior (even though it’s fairly spacious compared to other models of its size) but it enjoys a loyal following among pilots. It has speed, it has integrity and it has ruggedness. You can see Piper Tri-Pacers dotting the skies to this day and there is a good reason for that.
