I really enjoy the shape of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, I think the third tail engine looks cool and I like the way the wing engines hang from pods in front of the wings. While researching the DC-10 I discovered that it not only earned a horrible reputation in the press, but was also the aircraft involved in the most deadly U.S. aviation accident: American Airlines flight 191. I drew this comic on the 21st anniversary of that very accident. For as magical as powered flight is, we must always remember the painful path that has made commercial aviation one of the safest forms of travel and we must also honor the memory of those who lost their lives along that path.
