Sometime during the last few decades, the desire to work hard has been transformed into a desire to work yourself to the bone. Productivity has become key across many companies and they have been pushing their employees to go, go, go until there is no more gas in the tank. Its an understandable sentiment, the business world is more competitive than ever. But it is also dangerous. People will work themselves to the bones, or even to their deaths, in hopes of appeasing their employers.
We need to treat our workers well. They are human beings after all. Hard work should be expected (it is called work for a reason) but no one benefits from employees who are gassed out and exhausted and unhappy. Businesses should focus on the physical and mental well-being of their employees and find limits and safeguards that keep them moving along in a realistic but healthy way. Dont judge a company solely on the product it delivers. Judge a company based on how it treats the people who work for it.
