I feel like the term "startup" has morphed to represent an unstructured and disorganized small business more than simply a venture-backed, high-growth company. This disorganization leads to ambiguous job requirements for pretty much every position. Having worked at startups since the late '90s, I've seen the toll this can take on the people involved.
